Opua: pages old and new
Opua: pages old and new
It has been raining all over the world. Carol reports heavy rain in Chicago; as does my friend, Tim Robinson, who lives aboard at Constitution Marina, in Boston; and I read in the New York Times that the Yankees home opener was rained out.
Slow steady rain began here late yesterday afternoon and continued pattering gently upon the deck all night. It is a peaceful sound. There wasn’t a lot of water in the dinghy, so I’m uncertain if I have been by chance successful in smearing sealant in the right spots to cure the recurring leaks around mast and fireplace chimney for the time being, or if it just didn’t rain hard enough.
Despite nose to the deck scrutiny I can never find the source of these leaks and so put sealant in various likely and unlikely places which sometimes is effective.
The rain was predicted to continue until this afternoon, but didn’t. Under an overcast sky I had no trouble getting ashore and back this morning, taking one decisive step in placing my order for 182 freeze dry dinners (7 X 26), and another in printing out a copy of my Indonesia cruising permit which I received by email yesterday. THE HAWKE OF TUONELA can now legally be in Indonesian waters between June 29 and September 29 of this year.
I also disposed of a sack of charcoal. I am sailing toward the Equator and shouldn’t be using the fireplace in the forseeable future.

I’m sure everyone has noticed a new page: some favorite posts, in the column on the right. I created it yesterday, and it like everything else is a work in progress that will be added to from time to time. As I note on the page, you are invited to suggest posts to be included there.

The water here is presently light brown from run off after the rain. Usually it is green; often olive. Sometimes it is silver. As the photo above shows, one day last week it was sparkling blue.
