Evanston: Nicolaus Copernicus
sometimes, Nic, I don’t think
you did us any kindness
when you proved
we
are not
the center
I suppose
you could not help yourself
It was your nature
but
it is our nature
to want to be

The firefly galaxy post of February 10 reminded me of a poem I wrote a long time ago to Nicolaus Copernicus. I thought it was among those included at the end of THE OPEN BOAT, but it isn’t. Nor is it on the poems page of the main site.
However, it was short and I was able to recall enough to rewrite it into the above, which may be an improvement on the original.
