Evanston: across the Atlantic autonomously
Evanston: across the Atlantic autonomously
Just over eleven hours ago, as I write this at 11:00 a.m Central time, SCOUT, a 12’/3.65 meter long autonomous robotic boat was launched near Newport, Rhode Island, on a voyage that it is hoped will take it (I don’t think a robotic boat warrants ‘her’) across the Atlantic Ocean to Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain, the port from which Columbus began his second voyage to the “New World.”
She has thus far covered 20.10 miles and has 3415 to go. Her current speed is given as “Velocity mi/hr 1.4”.
This is the third attempt.
I’m indebted to Jim for emailing me about SCOUT and will be following online.
