Opua: breathless
Opua: breathless
Yesterday morning we powered forty minutes from Roberton to Russell, where we anchored, rowed ashore for lunch and to shop for a few things at the two small grocery stores. I found fresh blueberries which were a welcome treat on this morning’s uncooked oatmeal.
Dinner on deck, wallowing in the wakes of returning day trip boats, most of which make stops at both Russell and Pahia, followed by a spectacular sunset across two miles of water.
This morning we raised anchor and powered another forty minutes back to the mooring.
Other than the power boat wakes, my only reservation about Russell is that the anchor and chain usually come up covered with thick mud that must be scrubbed off link by link. However, this morning, as the last time I anchored at Russell, the chain came up clean, though the Spade anchor brought up a clump of the bottom. I’m not sure why. Perhaps I’m anchoring a bit farther north than I used to since a generally ignored “5 mile speed limit. No wake” buoy was put in place.
Today is sunny, warm and without a breath of wind.
