Roberton Island: glass
Roberton Island: glass
Along the way a ruffled patch of water lured me into raising the mainsail and unfurling the jib, but it vanished rather than spread, so I furled the jib and as we neared the anchorage lowered the mainsail.
A dozen or so boats were already at anchor, most of which I recognized as day trip charter boats, and many of their passengers were ashore, so we stayed on HAWKE for a lunch of salami, hummus, cheese and the General Store’s excellent rye bread. By 2:00 p.m. the day trip boats were gone and we rowed ashore and climbed the path to the lookout.
Our timing was impeccable, for as we descended one of the small ships that do cruises around the bay came in and discharged shore boats and kayakers.
Only a few drops of rain reached THE HAWKE OF TUONELA just as we were finishing a gourmet dinner of freeze dry lamb, peas and mashed potatoes in the cockpit.
Before sunset the sky was clear, and the night calm.
