Opua: the best mooring in the world
Opua: the best mooring in the world
An article of mine, “The Best Mooring in the World,” is running in the January CRUISING WORLD; and maybe it is.
Yesterday afternoon I used a hand pump to empty the bilge and then, after establishing as I expected that the float switch was working and only the manual switch not, replaced wire connectors until I found the problem. Then I dispatched some mold.
I don’t want to overstate that problem. There really isn’t any noticeable mold left in the cabin. Just odd specks I happen upon now and then.
After dinner of freeze dry chicken stew on deck, I came below and watched the first episode of the second season of Downton Abbey, an excellent British made Upstairs/Downstairs variation, which began season one with the sinking of the Titanic and has moved on to WWI. It is showing in the U.S on Sunday nights on PBS. I bought the first episode on iTunes, but am not sure how I’m going to see the rest. My Internet here is much too slow for big downloads.
The dying of the light took me back on deck, where the above photo was taken in the opposite direction of yesterday’s. I used my Nikon for both, which I haven’t much lately, and automatically brought the viewfinder to my right eye.
I sat on deck until after 10:00 p.m., listening to music and sipping duty free Laphroaig.
I’ve not gone ashore today.
I did a few chores: checked that the tiller pilot works; found that I have about half a tank of diesel, enough probably to last several years; replaced a ‘Y’ valve in the galley that switches between the two water tanks and began to leak when I turned it; aired out Carol’s clothes locker; sprayed Exit Mold into the space beneath the stove. And via Slingbox watched some of the NFL playoffs.
As predicted a sunny day with light wind.
The coming week still looks perfect.

A correction.
I reread these entries a few times after I post them. This morning I found that yesterday I used ‘effects’ when it should have been ‘affects’. A mistake. I do know the difference.
That is not as good as the typo I caught two days ago before it went online in which I wrote about rowing “in clam conditions.”
