Opua: calligraphy
One of the two evenings I was tied to Ashby’s dock I looked up and saw parts of boats as Japanese calligraphy.
I recall reading of a Japanese artist who spent all his life trying to draw a crane in flight. I think I understand that.
They are almost the same; but not quite. Perfection is elusive and uncertain.

It rained today, as predicted. Not hard, but steadily.
The new traveler--or rather the removal of the old--may have fixed one of HAWKE’s worst leaks. I expected this. There really couldn’t have been any other source.
----------
A local scuba diver who cleans the bottoms of boats came by today to clean THE HAWKE OF TUONELA. I gave him a cup of coffee to warm up--I have noted here before that there are penguins in these waters, and any water cold enough for penguins is too cold for me. He was surprised that I am living aboard because I don’t have all the stuff he expected. He did note that I do have a lot of books in the main cabin.
